first-page-of-Supreme-Court-brief

Earlier this week, Rathje Woodward filed a merits brief on behalf of its clients in Gill v. Whitford, a gerrymandering dispute that is pending before the United States Supreme Court. In this landmark case, RW and its co-counsel are asking the United States Supreme Court to curtail the practice of partisan gerrymandering across the country. Rathje Woodward attorney Douglas Poland served as co-lead trial counsel for the plaintiffs before a three-judge federal court panel in Wisconsin last year. That panel awarded judgment in favor of RW’s clients, and found that the State of Wisconsin’s legislative map was unconstitutional. The State of Wisconsin is asking the United States Supreme Court to overturn that decision. Oral argument is scheduled to occur on October 3, 2017.
