On June 4, 2021, Cares for Cancer NFP, a local non-profit dedicated to raising money and awareness in the fight against cancer debuted its inaugural “Tee It Up for Cancer” golf outing at Carriage Greens Country Club in Darien. Proceeds from the outing will go to support the “First Responder Housing Assistance Grant,” a program administered by Cares for Cancer that provides first responders battling cancer diagnoses with monthly grants to be applied to the costs of their housing.
Rathje Woodward LLC was proud to sponsor a hole at the outing. Associate Dan Szczesny attended the outing, where he worked as a volunteer and lent his significant event planning experience to help set up and assist Cares for Cancer in successfully executing the event. Rathje Woodward LLC is proud to both support and contribute to this worthy cause.
In 2020 the National Institute of Health estimated that 1,806,590 new cases of cancer would be diagnosed in the United States and 606,520 of those cases would result in death. However, there is cause for optimism as the American Cancer Society’s annual report, Cancer Statistics 2020, showed a continuing decline in overall cancer death rates – including a 2.2% reduction in the overall cancer mortality rate from 2016 to 2017 (the largest decline ever recorded year-over-year). Organizations like Cares for Cancer are a reason for continued optimism in this fight.
Cares for Cancer is administered by Tom Sieja, a Chicago Police Officer and Army Veteran – who served multiple tours in Afghanistan. Tom lost his brother, Kevin, to cancer and was inspired to undertake this noble cause in his honor.
