Most of us admit that simultaneously driving and using our cell phones is dangerous. Yet most of us do it.
Starting July 1st, in Illinois, you will be ticketed for using your cell phones, for any reason, while driving. No warnings.
Receiving three tickets in a 12-month period will mean a license suspension.
The new law allows you to push one button to activate GPS or answer or make a call. That means only using Bluetooth or hands-free and, if you are younger than 18, you can not use Bluetooth or hands-free.
The only exceptions to the law are: using the phone to report an emergency or using the phone when your car is in “Park”.
So, after July 1st, if you must use your cell phone, while driving, first pull over and put your vehicle in “Park”.
